Later
on in the battle at what point were Northampton's forces prevented from
further pursuing Waller and what was the nature of the retreat by
Parliamentarian forces back to the bridge?
Was it a headlong rout
or a closely contested withdrawal? By reconstructing the seventeenth
century landscape and then undertaking a systematic survey of the
battlefield looking for and carefully recording the
position of artefacts such as musket balls we could do much to fill in some of the gaps in the story.
